How malware steal your stored passwords in web browsers

How Malware Steal Your Data

There is a bigger threat to stored passwords than human beings and it’s called malware. Malware is a software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system. Yap, unauthorized access – you read that right.

So how does malware access your stored passwords? The malware tricks your computer or phone as if it’s you executing instructions, it asks your computer or phone to decrypt the password stored in the browser. The computer or phone, thinking “it’s you” goes ahead and reveal the password and the malware gets the password in plain text. The malware can use it to run attacks or sell the information to criminals. The effects can be devastating, it’s best not to save a password on your computer regardless of how small your brain memory is.

NB: This goes to all saved information on your browser not just usernames and passwords, whether it’s your credit/debit card details etc. Stay safe and never trust that browser just like you never trust your human enemy.
